(French drive Japanese mad).

The article describes the experiences of Japanese tourists who visited France. The author suggests that most of them experienced the Paris Syndrome, a mental breakdown where their romantic dream about France are disillusioned by surly taxi drivers and haughty waiters. Most Japanese women perceived Paris as a dream city, however, their illusions are ruined and realized that French character is the complete opposite of their own.。(abstract Far Eastern Economic Review, 2007 vol:170 iss:1 pg:80 )

In search of a new beginning, Amélie (Sylvie Testud) moves from Belgium back to her early-childhood home of Japan, where she starts working full time for a large corporation. But life as a foreigner proves difficult to navigate -- and Eastern office etiquette is nothing like what she's used to. French director Alain Corneau helms this Tokyo-based dramedy adapted from the autobiographical novel by Amélie Nothomb.
